It appears like every Filipino boxer who gets a shot or wins a crown is labeled as “Next Manny Pacquiao”. You heared about it when Ray Boom-Boom Bautista is on his prime. You also heared it everytime you hear the name Abe Concepcion and for sure, AJ “Bazooka” Banal is also called as such. But none of them has clinched a world title belt at 19 years old like Manny. And there seems nobody who will duplicate the feat of Pacquiao until Marvin Sonsona came.
Interestingly, Benjie Varella of EastSideBoxing has predicted that Sonsona will be the next World Champion from General Santos City on his column (http://www.eastsideboxing.com/news.php?p=20592&more=1). However, he predicted that it will come sometime in 2010 or early 2011. Apparently, he prediction is wrong because it’s only the third quarter of 2009 and Marvin Sonsona already got his first World Boxing Organization super flyweight crown. The Marvelous Marvin is a couple of months younger than Manny when the latter clinch his first title.
At this early, Marvin is already compared to the likes of Pacquiao, Edwin Valero and Juan Manuel Lopez due to his supreme punching power. His records show it with 12 of his 14 fights comes by way of knockout. He also annihillated former world champion Wandee Singwancha of Thailand within two rounds in May 2009.
Now that he is already holding a world title, he is out to prove that he can be the next Manny Pacquiao. We could all be witness for the rise of the new Filipino boxing star.
