Bernabe Falters Against JuanMa

In what was described by Fightfan.com as a “fierce opening round”, Bernabe Concepcion and Juan Manuel Lopez dropped to the canvas on the first round. However, Concepcion failed to capitalize on it as the savvy Puerto Rican scored a 2nd round TKO against the Filipino warrior.

Lopez gained the upper hand in the second round, sending Concepcion to the canvass twice. The bout was stopped at 2:37. This made Lopez still unbeaten in all his 29 bouts while Bernabe drops to 28 wins (with 15 KOs), 4 losses and 1 draw.

It’s a heartbreaking outcome for Concepcion who has been waiting for his chance to fight JuanMa for quite some time. In the end, the Filipino — who is being managed by Manny Pacquiao — fell short on his first shot to JuanMa.

If there’s any consolation for the night, Nonito Donaire retained his World Boxing Association (WBA) interim super flyweight title after stopping Mexican Hernan “Little Tyson” Marquez in the 8th round.
