Filipino featherweight Bernabe Concepcion scored a ten round decision win over Mario Santiago at Top Rank’s “Latin Fury 13 / Pinoy Power 3” pay-per-view card at the Las Vegas Hilton. Concepcion employed a good in-and-out movement to setup his attack. He threw and landed the harder and more effective punches early in the fight and in Round 6, the Filipino fighter caught Santiago with a huge right hand that dropped the taller Puerto Rican. Santiago managed to survive the round but did not find anything to counter Concepcion’s powerful attacks. Despit the last minute rally of Mario Santiago, the Filipino boxer was ahead on all three officials(98-91, 96-93, 97-92).
Arguably, the undercard of Concepcion/Santiago is the best fight of the night as observed by boxing fans. With the win, Bernabe Concepcion finally gets a shot at the title being held by Juan Manuel Lopez.
Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao, who manages Concepcion, was also in attendance to witness the entire card and to show his support to his Filipino compatriots.
